I'm a work right now. Had my first private session with one of the instructors today... talk about ab workout! Turns out the fundamentals of Pilates is abs; you gotta focus on stabilizing the torso (= abs) and making all appendage movements with the abs (= more abs)... abs abs abs. It's pretty neato. You learn a lot about body alignment and realize what muscles your body is used to using to do most things (for me it seems like it's the hip flexor and shoulders) and from that you try to reset your body to do otherwise. I had an hour session and in the first ten minutes my abs were warm and shaking, meaning I have no stomach strength. In addition to abs it looks like lengthening the spine and all the joints is important when you do things... so much to think about. So that's what I learned on my first day of Pilates. The End.
Oh yeah... I wanted to drive out the route over here for when I attempt it on my bike, so instead of going up icky ol' diagonal i'd ride a more pleasant way. So, I started out this morning and drove up diagonal a ways and then turned left (on what I thought would take me up to Nelson), but no. I zigzagged around through some cute little neighborhoods and somehow ended up deep into Boulder again... what what? I'll have to look a little more closely at the map before I attempt that again, and to think most of the time I have a good sense of direction. Whoops.
