New Year

I'm back from my nonposting and vacations. Went to Atlanta for Christmas where I go every year (it's where the grandmother lives). Good to see all the cousins and aunts and uncles. After Christmas I rode back to North Carolina with my folks. While it was a fun week being back in NC it's always strange to go back. It was home for a long time and I still know my way around its streets like the back of my hand, but it's not home. I never felt like I was back home. While the streets of the town were the same the shops and people had changed a lot. Since I've left Waynesville the town has gotten, either artsier or yuppier, I can't really decide which. There are more shops with art and crafts, but nothing anyone normal could really afford or would want to afford I suppose. Yes, there were differences and I felt like a semitourist, but I enjoyed being there. There's something comfortable there.

It was fun to see old friends I haven't see since (a) I left to come out here, (b) since college, and even (c) since high school. For New Year's I went with my friend Ellen and others up to this cabin in Cashiers. Up there we enjoyed beers, champagne and making fun of slutty looking girls who happened to be there. I felt bad for these girls actually, they were nineteen or so, dressed scandalously, trashed, and everyone was talking about their trashiness. But it was a fun night. The only thing was that the drive back to Ellen's house was horrible. It's never nice riding in the back of a car semidrunk down a curvy mountain road, ugh I thought I would barf, but thankfully that never happened. The next morning Ellen, our friend Kevin, and I went out to "Grandma's Pancakes" in Cullohwee and enjoyed a nice greasy breakfast. Yummy. And now I"m back!!
