I've always been a writer; not so much on this blog, because I'm more a paper/journal type writer, but a writer none the less. Anyway, I've gone through a lot of writing phases. There was a period where I was writing a short short everyday at lunch. Back story was that there wasn't anywhere to go to lunch around my office (stupid Rosslyn) so I stayed at my desk and ate my turkey sandwich and wrote short shorts. Then there was the really bad poetry phase, followed by the short story phase (different than short shorts b/c they are longer, ~40 pages where a short short is ~500 words).
Now I've got this idea to write a play. Sounds like a phase I know, but it's a good idea. Yesterday I wrote 6 pages in my journal, but then decided my computer would be so much more efficient for this type of thing, so I dug out my laptop. Did I transpose my 6 pages and continue on with the play? Not so much.
I got distracted reading over the stuff I had saved on the computer years ago, from of course, those silly phases I stated above. Do you ever look back at stuff you've written years ago and think, "Where did that come from?" Well I did. It was wonderfully amusing. There's a lot of Kerouac type stuff (I went through a huge phase of beat writing when I first moved to DC), stream of consciousness crap that's just hilarious now, lists of ideas for stories and movies and whatnot, more bad poetry, lyrics to songs, and what I thought was going to be the beginning of a novel. I even went so far as the outline the whole plot and write a couple chapters. Unfortunately, I'm not nearly dedicated enough to write a whole novel. I'm way too distracted to do other things. ADD you say? Nah, just never been good at sticking to one path.
Anyway, I never got around to my play last night. I will I will, but last night I was too interested in reading about what I was interested in years back. I even found a funny song that a housemate from college and I wrote. We must've been drunk b/c the song was complete rubbish.
