I was talking to a guy from work today about Europe. We were talking about bike races and whatnot and then got onto the topic of food. French food, fabulous. English food (other than the fabulous ethnic food you can find in London... I'm talking about real English fare), rubbish. Italian food, fabulous.... and so on and so forth.
What can we say is American food? Is it that I don't know b/c I live here? To me it would be anything greasy and maybe steaks... although the Japanese do steaks well so who knows. Would I consider American food rubbish if I were here visiting from someplace else?
I guess it depends on where you are in the country. Food is so regional. This work guy and I talked about this as well. When I meet people around here, or when I was in DC, that were also from the south they would always start to get me to talk about good southern cooking with them. Very odd. Well not only is food regional, but it depends on a lot of other things too. I'm sorry, but I have never had collard greens and yes I'm from the south.
