PBS = History Detectives and Haute Couture

Last night John and I watched a couple interesting PBS shows, and by interesting I really mean completely different than cable. The first show we watched was about "history detectives" who get questions from people about old stuff, places or people. The detectives then do a bunch a research and then present their findings. There were a few segments of the show. One story was about documents some dude had about a nuclear sub, then there was another about some baseball comic that some man bought and wanted to know about and the last was about documents a couple chicks had regarding the atomic bomb. While the show was relatively interesting the music was god awful. The producer was either really into synth or just ran out of funds.

After that show I watched a documentary of sorts about the culture surrounding haute couture. I actually didn't mean to watch it but got roped in. It was mainly about an exclusive group of ridiculously wealthy women who buy haute couture and why they love it so much. The clothes were really fabulous, but Jesus, $10,000 for a blouse and $100,000 for a dress?! This one woman only wore Chanel haute couture suits. I don't remember why she was so rich, but holy moly. I will say that she was very stylish. Another woman had a really strange since of style. She wasn't so much classic as eclectic and had a weird deconstructive look that I wasn't really into. That and she seemed snooty. There were also interviews with the Chanel, Lacroix, Givenchy, Valentino and Dior designers. I mainly liked this part because then you got to see the clothes and a bit about how they make them. When the show ended I announced that John was allowed to get me some Dior haute couture for Christmas. Ha.
